Today we worked on visual representations of linear equations. $1 dollar gold coins represented a unit and the pouches represented more than one gold coin. In these examples we found out how many gold coins each pouch contained by process of elimination and by keeping the equality of both sides of the equation. For example:
In this example we have 10 coins on the left and 4 coins on the right. The 4 coins on the right cancel out 4 coins on the left leaving behind only 6 coins on the left and 3 pouches on the right.
This leaves 6 coins on the left to be divided up evenly between 3 pouches. Their are 2 coins in each pouch.
